I extend my hearty congratulations to the officers and members of the Howard University School of law Alumni Association for creating a website and for affiliating with the University’s Office of Alumni Affairs. The website will improve communication among the HUSL family allowing for a closer working relationship with the entire Howard University alumni network. This will advance many of the goals that law school alumni strive for with respect to professional development and advancement of the university.
HUSL alumni continue to demonstrate strong and ongoing support of the law school. Recently we held a gala event at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. It was the highlight event of a year-long celebration of the 140th Anniversary of the School of Law. The evening was a tremendous success. HUSL members from all over the country and North America attended. The financial support was significant, providing sufficient funds after all expenses were paid to make a major contribution to HUSL need based scholarships. If you would like to get a sense of how festive the evening was, please see the photographs on the HUSL home page, www.law.howard.edu.
Those who were unable to attend the gala still have an opportunity to be a part of the event in a way that supports the law school. A pictorial history of the law school was published and sold at the gala. The book entitled “A Legacy of Defending the Constitution†can be purchased by contacting the Director of Development, Elizabeth Matory, a HUSL ’06 graduate. Also a beautiful painting was commissioned for the anniversary. It is called “Transcendingâ€, and prints of that painting can be obtained through Ms. Matory. All of the proceeds of this sale will go to assist students in defraying the cost of professional education.
HULAA President Kevin Judd is doing an outstanding job. He has outlined a very progressive agenda, and we look forward to working with him on projects designed to improve the quality of the educational experience. Our goal is to work with alumni as partners in progress for the Howard University School of Law. It is clear that we are all committed to making a great institution even greater. Thank you for your support.
